Most importantly, entries for the 2015 Berghaus Trail Chase™ are now open HERE and the event will take place on the weekend 8th and 9th August 2015. Don’t miss out on the UK’s finest two-day trail running race! The cost of entering steadily increases as the event approaches so it really pays to enter early.
Its three months since the inaugural Berghaus Trail Chase™ and the wave of positive feedback from the competitors, blogs and press reports that followed the event.
Race Director, Shane Ohly explains, “The feedback from competitors in 2014 was universally superb but we did receive some well thought out observations to improve the event and I am always keen to listen to the competitors experiences. As the Race Director, I always focus on the event details and I am fairly obsessive about getting this right. As such, we will be fine tuning the event for 2015 and I am very confident that we’ll be offering the very best weekend trail running event in the UK next August.”
So the tweaking of the event for 2015 will include:
Within days of the 2014 event, Charlie Sproson, our Race Planner (from Mountain Run), was back in touch with all the landowners working on an improved plan to ensure that the local tenant gamekeeper and farmers are properly informed about the event. It transpired in 2014 that despite having the necessary permission from the landowners, this consent had not filtered through to all the staff on the ground and as a result some of course way-marking was removed. Fortunately this affected very few runners but it was obviously a frustration for those it did, and for the volunteer team placing the way-marking. We have a new and improved plan for the 2015 event and are already working closely with the local landowners, gamekeepers and farmers to ensure that everyone is informed about the race.
Food will only be available to competitors who pre-order it online in 2015. This means we can get the quantities correct, the food ready at the right times and get it served much quicker (as there will be no need to take payment). However, this does mean that competitors will need to pre-order whatever food them want in advance and then collect a token for their food at registration. The deadline for pre-ordering food is Sunday 2nd August, and it fine to enter now, and then edit your entry closer to the time and add the optional meals or not.
Event Centre Camping on the Friday Night
There was some last minute demand from competitors to camp at the Osmotherley Event Centre on the Friday night before the race in 2014. This caught us by surprise as with the lunchtime starts on Saturday, we didn’t anticipate this and did not have the correct permission with the landowner to make it happen at short notice. However, for 2015 we will be encouraging competitors to arrive on the Friday night so that they can relax and socialise before the race the following day. We will be providing an optional ‘Film & Food’ add-on on the Friday night and will have a marquee cinema set up to show a great running film for those who want to watch. Any competitors wishing to camp on the Friday night are very welcome (they don’t have to participate in the ‘Food and Film’ extra). There will be a bar serving some super beers from our partners at the Wylam Brewery. £2 per pint! The same bar will be at the Saturday night camp.
All the courses will start earlier on the Saturday and later on the Sunday. We hope that on the Saturday this will mean less waiting around at the Event Centre for competitors and less pinch points in our logistics as we get everyone registered, onto the correct bus and to the right start location. The earlier starts on the Saturday also means that it makes more sense for competitors to arrive on the Friday night and enjoy the relaxed and fun atmosphere at the Event Centre. On Sunday morning we will be starting all the courses an hour later than in 2014. Again, this will mean less time pressure on everyone and a more relaxed start to the day…. Especially for those that enjoyed one to two more beers than intended!
We will still be providing some fantastic trophies for our individual and team winners (2014 picture HERE) but for 2015 we also are providing a finisher medal for all the runners who complete both days of their course. The finisher’s medal will be a high quality, custom made, Berghaus Trail Chase™ medal. Earn it and wear it with pride!
We will be offering prizes for individual, pairs and teams of three. In 2014, our team prize was for four person teams but this is being changed to three person teams for 2015. If you race as a team you do not actually need to stick together (although you are welcome to do this) whilst running to score team points.
If you have any questions about Berghaus Trail Chase™ please do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing info@BerghausTrailChase.com. We look forward to seeing you August 2015.
